The problem of Vygotsky’s translation in English still remains

Vygotsky is one of the eminent persons, marking the whole scientific directions. However, the western scientists have to use quite a controversial translation into English. The problem is evident on this picture:

As a result, this leads to quite exotic concepts in which Vygotsky looks like Bakhtin.

  1. On the left: “Thought and Language” (sic) translated by Alex Kozulin, MIT Press, 1986.

    On the right: “Thinking and Speech” translated by Norris Minick, in vol. 1 of The Collected Works of L. S. Vygotsky, Plenum Press, 1987.

    The Kozulin translation is not highly regarded, but I think the Minick translation is. I’d be interested in your assessment of the translation on the right.

    Perhaps this paragraph might be a good exercise for me to try and translate.
